European funding has contributed to a huge number of important infrastructure projects in the East Midlands over the past 20 years.  It has helped areas of high unemployment like the Nottinghamshire coalfields and rural parts of Lincolnshire to recover from decline and develop new industries.  EU money has funded projects for unemployed youngsters, disabled people and women returners, as well as providing training and new opportunities for all kinds of businesses and their employees.
