   Leicester

Leicester Economic Regeneration Partnership was allocated over £16m of European Regional Development Fund for the period 2000-06 for projects in the Leicester area.

Leicester East:

  • Highfields Lifelong Learning Centre: Received money from the European Regional Development Fund to substantially extend the centre and also the number and type of courses it can offer.  £811,560
  • Belgrave Business Developments - This scheme run by Leicestershire Asian Business Association aimed to help stimulate the growth of new small businesses in the Belgrave area of Leicester. £ 104,500
  • Link to Work - This project aimed to improve work opportunities and reduce age discrimination for the over 45s. It marketed mature jobseekers to employers and supported individuals attending the course. £132,287

Leicester South:

  • Creative Heartland Incubator Centre: The Creative Heartland Incubator Centre (CHIC) project will see the transformation of a redundant 1960s’ office building in Rutland Street, Leicester, into a managed workspace environment for creative small businesses. This is part of an ambitious scheme to create a cultural quarter in the St George’s area of Leicester city centre to help nurture businesses within the creative sector. £1,950,000

Leicester West:

  • The Peepul Centre: Is a flagship community centre that offers community facilities, arts events, catering, venue hire and workshops to people across the city and beyond. It received £2m from the European Regional Development Fund.
  • Braunstone Enterprise Centre - Provides a range of managed office space and individual units, along with a package of support services for business' operating on the premises. £735,000
