MEP calls on new Ministers to reconsider decision on Lincolnshire Sausages

Lincolnshire’s Labour MEP has asked two newly appointed Government Minister to look again at the decision to grant special status for Lincolnshire sausages.

Glenis Willmott explained: “The previous Minister Jim Paice MP turned down the request from the Lincolnshire Sausage Association for Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) status for Lincolnshire sausages.”

“Like many people I was disappointed by this decision.  However, following the Government re-shuffle, we have new Ministers responsible – Owen Paterson MP as Secretary of State, and David Heath MP as Minister of State.   As the new Ministers get to grips with their new responsibilities, I have written to ask them to reconsider that decision.”

“The Lincolnshire Sausage Association lodged an appeal against the decision earlier in the summer, but I hope the new Ministers can pre-empt this process by looking again at the assessment of his predecessor.”
