Major ERDF projects 2000-06
Bestwood Access Centre (£975,622) Also known as Southglade Training Centre, includes training rooms, a Surestart Centre with childcare for parents and trainees, an Advice and Guidance Centre for employment, welfare rights and self-employment, accommodation for a number of community midwives, and a café where trainees and members of the community can meet and socialise.
BioCity Nottingham (£1,670,218) A bio-science innovation centre which aims to develop the biomedical and healthcare cluster in the East Midlands. The development combines a science park with an innovation and incubation centre which provides ideal facilities for scientists and entrepreneurs working in research and development within the biosciences. www.biocity.co.uk
Broadway Media Centre (£1,728,198) Two projects have been funded to expand the existing building to provide additional and improved facilities and to develop supported workspaces for small creative industries businesses, thus helping to grow the creative sector in the city centre. www.broadway.org.uk
Contemporary Nottingham (£3,000,000) This is one of the largest contemporary art spaces in the UK, with four galleries, an auditorium, an education space, a study centre, a café-bar and a shop. Opened in November 2009. www.nottinghamcontemporary.org
Old Market Square (£2,457,400 including original feasibility study) In September 2003 Nottingham City Council invited proposals for creating from its existing Old Market Square a public space providing the city with a “high quality square of international significance whilst respecting its local identity, history and importance.” The new Square, designed by Gustafson Porter, opened in 2007.
Regeneration Fund for Sites and Buildings (£1,992,000) Nottingham City Council. An investment fund for local area partnerships and other approved community organisations to facilitate the provision of smaller quality business premises at affordable rents.
Southglade Food Park (£1,859,600) Nottingham City Council. An innovative business park dedicated to the needs of expanding food and drink producers in the East Midlands, including affordable, food grade units built on part of a former landfill site. The project is set to create around 170 new jobs for the area currently blighted by high unemployment. www.southglade.co.uk
Wollaton Hall and Park (£969,953) Nottingham City Council. Creating high quality, contemporary interpretation, facilities and services for visitors to Wollaton Hall and Park, and stabilising and enhancing the historical and environmental assets. www.nottinghamcity.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=1037
A number of smaller projects were also supported, meaning that from 2000-2006 over £20 million of ERDF grant was allocated to Nottingham projects.
Major ERDF projects 2007-13
So far the following Nottingham-based projects have received ERDF funding in the current programme:
Environmental Technology Centre (£1,728,583) This centre based at the University of Nottingham aims to assist businesses to improve their performance by providing them with access to emerging and established technologies enabling them to incorporate these activities into their operations.
Food and BioFuel Innovation Centre (£2,721,000.00) Also based at the University of Nottingham, it supports sustainable food and drink production, utilisation of food crop and process residues for biofuel and co-product generation.
Sneinton Market – People and Places (£1,750,000) The creation of a new high quality public square with improved pedestrian links adjoining the former Sneinton Market buildings and Victoria Leisure centre, providing a new focus point for markets, public art and performance and other events.
A number of smaller projects have also been supported, meaning that since 2007 a further £5 million of ERDF grants has been allocated to Nottingham projects.
ESF projects 2007-13
Training and employment projects worth over £5 million in total are currently being delivered by bodies such as Nottingham City Council, Renewal Trust, Meadows Partnership Trust, Nottingham Probation Service and Bestwood Partnership Forum. |
